I’m Moving!

There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes in the past six months and I’m excited that I can finally share the news with you: I’m moving to Richmond, VA!

Why the move?

As you may recall, my boyfriend, Max, moved to Miami last August to start law school. Over the course of the past year, I was able to spend significant time in Florida with him as I worked remotely. During that time, we realized that South Florida was not somewhere we pictured ourselves long-term.

With this in mind, we started considering Max transferring laws schools, giving much thought to location. Max put in a ton of work balancing his course load, internship applications, and the transfer process. Thankfully, it all paid off. After touring schools and getting a feel for the surrounding cities, we settled on the University of Richmond!

Why leave DC?

I adore DC. If the cost of living wasn’t so high, I’d probably stay forever. But I want to own a home with a yard, which is not an easy feat in DC. So it has always been a matter of when, not if I leave Washington.

However, I always thought I’d live here for four or five years before leaving the city and “settling down.” Consequently, I grappled with the fact that I’ve only resided here for a little over two years since I graduated college, and at least a quarter of that time I spent elsewhere during the pandemic.

It’s certainly not the timeline I envisioned, but the more I’ve thought about it, the more I’ve realized that I’m simply arriving at what I’ve always wanted a little early. I get to live in a cute rental house in a wonderful city with the person I love!

How I’m Feeling

I have so many feelings right now. Since they’re not linear or particularly coherent, I’m resorting to bullet points.

  • I’m excited to live in Richmond! Funnily enough, it’s always been a place I held in the back of my mind as the kind of city I’d like long-term.
  • I’m grateful that my employer is letting me stay fully remote. With so much change happening in my life, I’m happy that I don’t also have to change jobs.
  • I can’t wait to have more space! Goodbye studio apartment, hello three bedrooms!
  • After four years together and multiple rounds of long-distance (more on that here), I’m thrilled to finally get to live in the same place as Max.
  • It’s amazing having the things I’ve wanted for so long come to fruition. Lots of answered prayers, for sure!

Now that the cat is out of the bag, I’ll share more of the moving process in real time on Instagram. If you have any Richmond or greater Virginia recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

Thank you for taking the time to read the blog. I’m thankful for this space where I get to share my life—from my first big life update post to now— and connect with you!
