Spring in iPhone Photos

Looking through my camera roll, there’s been a lot of highlights over the past few months! It’s a stark contrast to last spring when I hardly took any photos because life during quarantine felt like Groundhog Day. This year, we had a lot to celebrate, including Max finishing his first year of law school, our fourth anniversary, and Max’s 25th birthday—not to mention getting vaccinated! Also, I returned home to Washington, DC, at long last and traveled to Asheville, Richmond, and Baltimore.

I got my second COVID-19 shot in April, and once I was fully vaccinated, I was so excited to get to socialize more normally again! My first outgoing was getting drinks with my longtime friend Chinedu at Fireforge in Greenville, SC.

While Max and I were in South Carolina, we played croquet nearly every night. I found a vintage set on Facebook Marketplace in April and it’s provided hours and hours of entertainment already.

Another spot we discovered in South Carolina this spring was Sweet Sippin’, a laidback wine bar in downtown Simpsonville. The service was fantastic every time we went, as was the wine and music (I’m a sucker for anywhere that plays Ray LaMontagne).

I thought I had a monopoly on anniversary surprises, but after we got back from our trip to Asheville, NC, Max surprised me with flowers and dinner at Stella’s Southern Bistro.

In May, I returned to Washington, DC, and slept in my own bed for the first time in five months! The familiarity of home was the best feeling, and it felt like a true treat to eat at my favorite local Mexican restaurant.

Max and I took a trip to Richmond at the beginning of June. We stayed at the cutest bed and breakfast in the Museum District. Our room was the converted carriage house, which had its own private little porch that ended up being the perfect place to lounge during an evening thunderstorm.

Just two days after getting back from Richmond, we took a day trip to Baltimore, MD. It was my first time on a train in ages. The views of the harbor from Baltimore were gorgeous, but the true highlight of the trip may have been the giant soft pretzel I ate in Fells Point.

Earlier this month, we celebrated Max’s 25th birthday! He is a no-frills, no-fuss kind of guy, especially when it comes to birthdays, but I did surprise him with a Cold Stone ice cream cake.

As another first in a long while, I got a pedicure! I went to Varnish Lane West End with one of my friends. I’d never had a dry pedicure before, and while I can now say that I prefer a traditional pedicure, going to the nail salon was a nice treat.
