Home Office Moodboard

One of my goals for 2024 is to finish at least one room in my house, and I think my home office is the most realistic contender. I have a clear vision for the space: feminine with a lot of personality. As you’ll see in the home office moodboard I put together, we’re going pink!

Room Considerations

The sole function of this room is to be my home office. I’m fortunate that the space doesn’t have to be multi-purpose, at least for the time being. In addition to a desk and chair for me to work, I would like to have some kind of chair or loveseat for my golden retriever to lounge on while I work. I like the shape of this chair + ottoman. Of course, I don’t want to spend big bucks on this piece since it’s mainly for a dog, ha. Another consideration for the functionality of the room is positioning the furniture based on lighting. There is a window on each external wall, causing terrible backlight on my virtual meetings unless my back is to the singular interior wall with no windows and no doors — I’ll share photos (and maybe even a diagram) as I progress on the design.

What I’m Working With

I’m not starting completely from scratch for this room. I’m designing around my existing pink and blue medallion rug. In person, the rug reads more grey than blue. Currently, I have a small glass desk and a hand-me-down tan loveseat in the office. I’m fairly certain these will go when it’s all said and done, although they are perfectly functional for the time being. Further, I have dozens of art prints spread out all over my guest bed, waiting to be framed and hung in this space. Also, if you read my six months in South Carolina update, you know the spoiler: I’ve already painted the room pink. Sherwin-Williams’ Quaint Peche to be specific. We’re committed!

To Go Custom or Not to Go Custom?

I swooned when I saw James+James’ Olivia Corner Desk. An L-desk would solve my furniture-positioning problem. Plus, those legs! My dilemma is the desk doesn’t come in white. I need white because brown would not jive with the dark-grey-almost-black doors I have throughout the house. This leads me to a crossroads: I can drop a few grand on the custom desk of my dreams, inspired by the Olivia, or I can compromise on my vision and find something inexpensive on Facebook Marketplace. The jury’s out.
