A Quick Getaway to Wintergreen, VA

Two weekends ago was the perfect time to retreat to the mountains and escape the heatwave that engulfed DC. After work on Friday, Max and I packed up the car and headed southwest to meet some of our friends in Wintergreen, VA. What I found when we arrived was cool, mountain air and a fresh perspective on the daily grind of city life. Continue reading

    Life Lately

Hi everyone! A couple of big life changes are happening on my end and I wanted to take a moment today to update you. For starters, I’m a college graduate! I finished up my four years at the University of South Carolina Honors College in early May. The last month of college was a complete whirlwind, from finishing and defending my thesis to trying to soak in all the lasts of senior year. But then everything wrapped up seemingly all of a sudden. Graduation weekend itself was wonderful and full of memories that I’ll always cherish. I have exciting content to share from the festivities coming soon, including my senior photos and grad party!

    Culinary Tour of Greenville, SC

Last week, I went on a culinary tour of Greenville, SC. The tour was a birthday gift to my mom from me and my brother. It had been ages since just the three of us spent time together so we thought eating and drinking our way through the city would be a special way to have some quality time and celebrate our mom. Between the food, the wine and the scenery, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Today, I’m sharing all of the details with you in the hopes that you may be inspired to embark on your own culinary tour, whether it be on vacation or in your hometown.

An Intern’s Guide to Summer in Washington, DC

Washington, DC is a land of never-ending brunch. Plus, if on occasion you want a break from all that brunching, you’re in luck. DC is overflowing with culture, history and job opportunity. There is no better place to dip your toe in the political scene, see the fireworks on July 4th, or spend a summer interning than in our nation’s capital.

While all of this sounds awfully glamorous, I know firsthand how daunting the logistics of moving to and navigating a new city can be. In April 2017, I had 37 internet tabs open and was calling my mom on a bi-hourly basis because I had to find housing in DC just three weeks before my internship began. But after a successful first summer in the city—and a second because I couldn’t get enough—I am passing on practical housing and transportation advice to help kick off your time in DC stress-free.

    My Nighttime Routine

    I. Love. Sleep. I always have. Even as a kid, I never had a desire to stay up late just for the fun of it. Yet it wasn’t until college that I realized the importance of establishing a nighttime routine. Ironically, as my classmates were pulling all-nighters and staying out until the bars closed, I found myself gravitating towards routine and rest. Now, I give myself roughly an hour at the end of each night to clear my mind from the day’s to-do list, practice self-care and wind down before bed. Affording myself the time and space at the end of the day to just be—no agenda and no guilt—has done wonders for my stress level. Continue reading
