Holiday Wreath-Making at Tudor Place

This post is coming to you from an early morning flight out of Ronald Reagan. As I type, I’m soaring over the clouds on my way home to South Carolina for Christmas. I can’t wait to soak in 9 days of vacation! Honestly, the whole month of December has felt festive in a way that it never could when I was stressed about college finals. One of my favorite holiday activities this year was a new experience: wreath-making at Tudor Place in Georgetown.

Back in October, I somehow got it in my mind that I wanted to do a holiday wreath-making class this year. A quick Google search led me to Tudor Place, upon which I booked my spot for the Historic Greenery Workshop and invited my friend Jaya to come along. Flash forward to December when I arrived at the gates of Tudor Place, tucked away in a corner of Georgetown. I made my way up the pebble driveway and found the Pierce Arrow Garage, where the wreath-making was held.

A woman named Mary-Ellen who’s volunteered at Tudor Place for over 20 years led the workshop. She told us about the greenery options we had for our wreaths, ranging from boxwood to holly to magnolia leaves. After that, we all piled our supplies high on the tables and dove into decorating.

There was something rejuvenating about getting to be creative for a full 90 minutes with no pressure. There was no right or wrong way to decorate a wreath. I realized that outside of the blog, I don’t get to be purely creative in my day-to-day life. It’s a feeling I miss and want to be intentional about seeking out more in the coming years.

Jaya went with a gold and green color scheme, while I stuck with classic Christmas red and green. It was fun to not only see how different ours turned out, but also how each person in the class had their own unique take. For all the years that I live in DC, I want to make the greenery workshop at Tudor Place a tradition. It truly made me so happy!

I’m also happy to report that my wreath made it through TSA and I’ll be able to hang it on the front door of my parents’ house. I’m so glad the wreath will be displayed and won’t go to waste!
